Central Australian Tourism Industry Association (CATIA) is a non-profit, incorporated association of businesses, individuals and organisations committed to the growth of business and tourism in Central Australia.

Our Mission
To facilitate the strong growth of Central Australian tourism.

Tourism is big business in The Centre. Over half a million people visit this region each year, generating hundreds of millions of dollars for the local economy.

Every business in The Centre feels the impact of tourism. Tour operators, bankers and builders all profit when the tourism industry grows, and feel the effects when it declines. CATIA is a non-profit, membership-based association working to ensure that tourism only continues to grow and benefit all businesses in Central Australia.

Our Job
CATIA's three primary roles are:

  • Marketing the region
  • Servicing our members
  • Providing visitor information services
A team of full-time and part-time staff assists in fulfilling each of CATIA's roles. Headed by a general manager who reports to an executive committee of CATIA members, the CATIA team is made up of individuals dedicated to continually improving the level of service provided to both our members and visitors.

Our History
CATIA was formed from the amalgamation of the Alice Springs Regional Tourist Association and the Yulara Regional Tourism Association in 1991. Following this amalgamation, CATIA took on the role of regional tourism promotion for the entire Central Australian region, which extends from the South Australian border, north to Barrow Creek and from the Queensland border in the east through to the Western Australian border.

Our Future
CATIA's future depends on the continual support and membership of local and national businesses involved in tourism in The Centre.

Every region of Australia is vying for tourism dollars, and CATIA must have the support of businesses, individuals and organisations to succeed in the increasingly competitive tourism marketplace. Supporting CATIA through membership is a means of investing in the future of the Central Australian economy. Contact the CATIA office for additional information on joining the association.
