Travelling in a 4x4 is not just a means of getting to Central Australia; it is the ultimate way to experience the secluded beauty of The Centre. There are 4x4 tracks coming from the four corners of Australia: via the Plenty and Gunbarrel highways, and the Oodnadatta and Tanami tracks. Before your 4x4 trip to The Centre, contact the Central Australian Visitor Information Centre for a copy of the 4x4 Guide which details the 4x4 tracks and unsealed roads into and around Central Australia. It is also a good idea to check the road conditions before you leave, as road conditions in the Territory can change rapidly. For upto date information contact the Visitor Information Centre on (08) 89525800 or by phoning 1800 246 199.
